Dungeons & Caves
editDungeons within UO are located on all Facets. They are explorable areas where characters may encounter any combination of monsters, puzzles, NPCs, or traps. Defeating the monsters and solving the puzzles reward players with various types of treasure; the tougher the monsters/puzzles, the more rewarding the treasure.
Some Dungeons are multi-layered areas, with stairs or hole-like openings that must be used to travel between the levels. Typically, the more levels you encounter in a dungeon, the tougher the monsters and puzzles become. For example, in a single dungeon, a level 1 cavern might have Ettins and Earth Elementals, while a level 4 cavern in the same dungeon might have Ogre Lords and Trolls. Other dungeons may be a single level area—yet contain advanced monsters of extreme difficulty. Caution should always be exercised when exploring new Dungeon areas!

Covetous
editThe Avarice Sanctum
editThe dungeon Covetous was carved a long time ago into the Mountains of Avarice. There are five levels where the two first consist of narrow and winding passages which connect to larger caverns. The third is what appears to be the remains of some prince or king’s abode that has long been abandoned, either willingly or forcefully when the mountain giants arrived. The fourth level is an old prison with cells for prisoners on both sides of a short corridor ultimately leading to the torture room and the Lich King. The fifth and final level is near a subterranean lake where a daemon, Q’Zail, leads hordes of her minions to all other parts of the dungeon on her own.

Deceit
editThe Frozen Catacombs
editDeceit is a dungeon filled with undead, ghosts, and spectres, located on Ice Isle. The first level is filled with ghosts and unholy spirits not visible to the human eye, and the deeper you go, the harder it gets. When you reach the fourth and final level, you have a long path of traps, ghosts, and dead knights attacking you. If you manage to pass through the ghosts unnoticed, you will reach the never-ending fire, burning in the forge of Deceit.

Destard
editThe Wyvern Pit
editProbably best described as a dragon lair, but the sheer number of dragons inside makes the word lair a bit too small. Old tales say that the Syndicate miners originally discovered the dungeon and the rich ore veins inside, but they ran into a problem. They dug too far into the mountain and found the dragon queen's nest, causing the dragons to spread across the dungeon and all of Britannia.

Hythloth
editThe Halls of Torment
editHidden far away from civilization on Isle of the Avatar lies the entrance to the dungeon Hythloth, a place of unspeakable horrors and probably the closest thing to hell you can get without actually going there. On the first two levels you will encounter Hell Hounds, Cats, Evil Eyes, Gargoyles, and other strong monsters. As you go deeper down to the final level, you had better be well prepared. Down here there are monsters everywhere, varying from gargoyles to demons, hell fires to balrons.

Shame
editThe Forgotten Citadel
editShame is more of a group-challenge/instance than a normal dungeon. When first entering Shame you’ll be warned that there are only two ways to leave the dungeon: beating it, or death. The first level is filled with orc minions and a sign warning you about the danger beneath; once you find the entry portal leading into Shame Gauntlet, there is no turning back. Here you will face the hardest and most challenging monsters available, with the rewards being the most rare and unique as well. There are several types of monsters in the Shame Gauntlet varying from warriors to black widows, mini-bosses to challenging puzzles.

Wrong
editThe Britannian Penitentiary
editWrong was originally a prison far away from the cities of Britannia created by Lord British himself in a desperate effort to seal off criminals from the world. Due to a riot, all the guards watching the inmates were overrun and the prison was left for dead. Nowadays it’s filled with slimes and putrid flesh trying to break out and escape the magical forces holding them back.
